The role described is Director of Engineering, Security Factory, who will lead the engineering organization responsible for GitLab’s customer-facing security capabilities across the AI-powered DevSecOps platform, overseeing nine teams that work on proprietary scanners, AI-driven detection engines, agentic remediation flows, and security foundations. Responsibilities include setting the engineering vision and multi-quarter roadmap for scanners, AI workflows, research, vulnerability management, and security foundations; driving architecture for AI/ML detection engines and remediation flows; partnering with product management; owning delivery; and upholding engineering standards and observability, while representing the Security Factory in cross-functional planning and disclosures. Candidates should have experience leading distributed engineering organizations, strong knowledge of application security fundamentals, experience building detection or scanning systems in SaaS/DevSecOps, and direct experience shipping customer-facing AI/ML features tied to detection or remediation quality, plus collaborative, async-first communication skills.
