The Senior Data Governance Program Manager will translate GitLab’s data governance and quality strategy into cross-functional programs, aligning the Enterprise Data Team with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Customer Success, Product, and others to establish clear data ownership, reliable quality, and compliant policies. Responsibilities include establishing a scalable data governance framework (stewardship, quality management, data catalog), creating an operating cadence for reviews and staffing, defining data steward roles, enforcing policies, and implementing controls and audits to ensure consistent policy application. The ideal candidate has experience leading complex data governance and data quality programs across multiple domains, can translate cross-functional data requirements into actionable work items, understands data management principles and catalog concepts, and can influence stakeholders and communicate insights effectively. The role is an Intermediate Backend Engineer on the Security Platform Management team, tasked with building greenfield enterprise security solutions that centralize administration and position GitLab as a single platform for security, with a distributed team across the US, Israel, and India. You’ll design and develop next-generation Security Platform Management capabilities, build scalable backend services in Ruby on Rails with PostgreSQL for large security data, and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs while collaborating with Infrastructure, Policies, and Security Insights teams and implementing unified configuration for GitLab’s security tools. Ideal candidates have production Ruby on Rails experience, PostgreSQL optimization, REST/GraphQL API development, familiarity with GitLab CI/CD, and interest in security; knowledge of Elasticsearch/NoSQL is a plus, and you should be comfortable working autonomously in a remote, asynchronous environment.
